The handle is made of G10 material

When buying knives on our e-shop, customers carefully go through the Parameters tab. In addition to the steel type, weight or blade paratert, there is also information about the material used on the handle. Mikov uses a variety of these, depending on the intended use of the knife. So what exactly are we buying when it says the knife has a G10 handle?
G10 was developed in the 1950s. At that time, new materials were being sought for military use that had excellent mechanical properties, were resistant to moisture and chemicals, and also had excellent electrical insulation. Engineers experimented with resins and fibreglass, which they pressed together under high pressure and temperature.
The name G10 is therefore a standardized designation for composite materials based on fiberglass and epoxy resins. It therefore does not imply some reference to a prominent figure, as is the case with RWL 34 steel (Mikov uses it on Predator knives and we wrote about it here).
G10 was first used for military purposes in aircraft and electronics. Later it spread to industry and was found to be great for knife handles that require high durability and strength. As a result, Mikov uses G10 in the blades of the Patron knives as well as the Storm and Golak from Project War Veteran.
The material can withstand harsh conditions, mechanical stresses, and is resistant to moisture and chemicals, ensuring a long life for the handles. In addition, despite its high strength, it is relatively lightweight, which contributes to the overall comfort and maneuverability of the knife. In addition, the combination and layering of G10 can create colour combinations, textures and patterns, which Mikov has used for example in the handle of the Golak knife.
